Niger’s President Tiani Begins Official Working Visit to Türkiye

Nigerien President Abdourahamane Tiani arrived in Türkiye for an official working visit at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries, with discussions expected to cover cooperation in key sectors as well as regional and global issues. Tiani is accompanied by a high-level delegation of ministers and senior officials, reflecting Niger’s focus on expanding strategic partnerships with Türkiye.

Nigerien President, General Abdourahamane Tiani, arrived in Türkiye on Wednesday night to begin an official working visit.

In a statement released by the Turkish government, it was indicated that the West African leader is visiting at the invitation of his Turkish counterpart. Burhanettin Duran, Director of Communications for the Turkish government, confirmed the visit in a post shared on X, stating: “At the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Niger, Abdourahamane Tchiani, will pay a working visit to Türkiye on June 4, 2026.”
The statement further explained that discussions during the visit would cover all aspects of bilateral relations between Türkiye and Niger. It added that steps to further enhance cooperation between the two countries would be evaluated.
It was also described as an important visit, with the statement noting that the two leaders will exchange views on both regional and global developments during their engagements.
In a separate statement issued on Wednesday, the Presidency of Niger confirmed that President Tiani had departed for Türkiye on what it described as a working and partnership visit aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two nations.
The Nigerien statement also listed several high-ranking officials accompanying President Tiani on the visit. It emphasized that all members of the delegation play important roles in national development and highlighted that the composition of the delegation reflects the Nigerien authorities’ commitment to strengthening cooperation with Türkiye across multiple priority sectors, particularly those linked to Niger’s economic, industrial, and security development.
The high-ranking Nigerien officials in the delegation include General Salifou Mody, Minister of National Defense; Garba Hakimi, Minister of Health; Salissou Mahaman, Minister of Infrastructure; and Ousmane Abarchi, Minister of Mines.
Others in the delegation are Bakary Yaou Sangaré, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Soumana Boubacar, Chief of Staff to the President and Government Spokesperson; Maman Laouali Abdou Rafa, Minister of Economy and Finance; Mahaman Elhadj Ousmane, Minister of Agriculture; Amadou Haoua, Minister of Energy; Abdoulaye Seydou, Minister of Trade and Industry; and Salou Adama Gazibo, Niger’s Ambassador to Türkiye.
