Erdogan Hosts Niger’s President Tiani in Ankara for High-Level Talks
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday formally welcomed Niger’s President, Abdourahamane Tiani, to Ankara with a full state ceremony, underscoring the growing diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Niger.
President Tiani arrived at the Turkish presidential complex under tight security and ceremonial honours. His motorcade was escorted by a cavalry unit as it made its way to the Presidential Complex, where President Erdogan personally received him at the main entrance.
The official welcoming ceremony featured several traditional state protocols. A military band performed the national anthems of both Türkiye and Niger, while flags were displayed prominently throughout the venue. Soldiers representing the 16 historic Turkic states also took part in the ceremony, reflecting Türkiye’s cultural and historical heritage. The event was further marked by a 21-gun salute in honour of the visiting Nigerien leader.
During the ceremony, President Tiani inspected the guard of honour and greeted members of the ceremonial troops. Following this, both leaders introduced members of their respective delegations, allowing officials from both countries to formally acknowledge one another before the commencement of official engagements.
After the welcoming ceremony, Erdogan and Tiani posed for official photographs in front of the Turkish and Nigerien national flags, symbolising the friendly relations between the two nations. The leaders then proceeded to hold bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation and exploring areas of mutual interest.
As part of the visit, the two presidents are expected to chair interdelegation meetings involving senior government officials from both countries. They will also oversee the signing of a number of agreements designed to enhance cooperation in key sectors. Following these engagements, Erdogan and Tiani are scheduled to address journalists during a joint news conference where they are expected to outline the outcomes of their discussions and the future direction of bilateral relations.
President Erdogan is also expected to host an official dinner in honour of President Tiani later in the day, providing an additional opportunity for diplomatic engagement between the two delegations.
A number of high-ranking Turkish officials attended the welcoming ceremony, highlighting the importance Ankara places on the visit. Among those present were Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Defence Minister Yasar Guler, Trade Minister Omer Bolat, National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalin and Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran.
The visit is expected to contribute to the strengthening of political, economic and strategic cooperation between Türkiye and Niger as both countries seek to deepen bilateral relations and expand areas of partnership.
