Three Tactical Options for Hansi Flick to Replace Injured Barcelona Forward

Barcelona have been dealt a significant setback at a crucial stage of the season, with Raphinha ruled out for an extended period through injury.

The absence of the Brazilian winger represents a major blow for manager Hansi Flick, particularly as the club enters a decisive phase of the campaign. Initial optimism that the injury might be minor quickly faded, with confirmation that Raphinha will be sidelined for approximately five weeks.

His absence will force a tactical reshuffle in Barcelona’s attacking line, prompting Flick to consider several potential replacements.

Rashford Emerges as the Natural Replacement

The most straightforward option appears to be Marcus Rashford, whose profile closely matches that of Raphinha in terms of attacking threat and directness.

Despite experiencing an inconsistent role in recent weeks, Rashford has delivered impressive numbers this season, contributing 10 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. Notably, he previously stepped up effectively during an earlier spell when Raphinha was unavailable, offering pace, penetration and a consistent attacking outlet.

Alternatively, Flick could opt for a more fluid and centralised approach by deploying players such as Fermín López or Dani Olmo.

Both players favour drifting infield rather than maintaining width, which would alter Barcelona’s attacking dynamics. Their tendency to cut inside could create additional space for overlapping full-backs, particularly Alejandro Balde and João Cancelo, to provide width from deeper positions.

Cancelo, in particular, has been a standout performer, while Balde’s expected return from injury could further enhance Barcelona’s attacking balance on the flanks.
