In a landmark decision, the Court of Appeal in Abuja has discharged and acquitted former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen, overturning his 2019 conviction for false asset declaration. The Appellate Court reviewed the trial and ruled in Onnoghen's favor, nullifying the original conviction by the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Justice Abba Bello Mohammed also ordered the return of four bank accounts that had been previously forfeited. Onnoghen's lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the Attorney General of the Federation for their involvement in the resolution of the case.
