All roads led to Italian glory on Thursday 4th May, 2023 as SSC Napoli of Italy secured a point via a 1-1 draw with Udinese and gain a point and take their total to 80 points and win the coverted Calcio Crown. Nigeria and Napoli’s Victor James Oshimhen provided the equalizer in the 52nd to restore parity after Udinese’s Sandi Lovric’s 13th minute opener at the Dacia Arena. The home side seized the early initiative and were on track to emerge as party-poopers before the leveler came from the Neapolitan camp, early in the second half, to earn a share of the spoils and take the away side beyond the reach of all other Serie A teams in pursuit and thus clinching their first league title in thirty-three (33) years against all odds and the efforts of the outgoing Champions, AC Milan in defense of their crown. The newly minted Champion, Osimhen, expressed his deep delight at the achievement and a season of success, while granting an interview to journalists; “…it’s not the right time to discuss my future. I just want to enjoy this incredible title…. I can’t wait to return to Napoli and hug the fans. I’m so happy for them.”The Napoli Head coach, Luciano Spalletti was full of praise for his young team as they had made him proud by pulling off a heist in the title race to emerge victorious with a joint-record 5 games to the end of the league season. Having now achieved Calcio immortality, Napoli can celebrate at their next home fixture against Fiorentina, next Sunday. A massive Congratulations to the overachieving underdogs.

At the blast of the final whistle, there were scenes of immense joy and passion as the Napoli supporters and other persons affiliated with the Club stormed the pitch to hoist their players overhead in wild felicitation and celebration with some even digging up patches of the turf and wrapping them in plastic bags as souvenirs to immortalize the immense achievement they had been blessed to witness in their lifetimes. The streets of Naples were brightly lit with fireworks and beautifully decorated with ribbons, banners and confetti in loud rowdy celebrations in honour of their Club which by sheer determination and endeavor surpassed all expectations to claim the 2022/23 Scudetto with five (5) games to spare and for the only the third time in their history since their last triumph back in 1990, under the leadership of the great late Diego Maradona.

Super Eagles and Nigerian Striker, Victor Osimhen, was at the center of the festivities with his name being chanted from all among the travelling contingent as he was the most valuable contributor to the Partenopei’s title charge and has indeed written himself into the history of the famous football Club. The twenty-four-year-old has netted a total of twenty-seven goals in thirty-four games so far, with twenty-two strikes and four (4) assists coming in the league alone thereby keeping him on track to become the African player with the most goals in a Serie A season, leapfrogging Samuel Eto’o’s long standing tally of 21 goals in a season. The newly minted Champion, Osimhen, expressed his deep delight at the achievement and a season of success, while granting an interview to journalists;
