The Women’s Championship will be rebranded as the Women’s Super League 2 (WSL2) from the start of the 2025–26 season, as part of a significant overhaul of professional women’s football in England.
Women’s Championship to Be Renamed WSL2 from 2025–26 Season in Major Rebrand

The announcement was made on Thursday by Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL), the organisation responsible for managing the top two tiers of the women’s game. The rebrand includes new league names, emblems, and a refreshed visual identity.
In addition to the rebranding of the second tier, WPLL has changed its name to Women’s Super League Football (WSL Football) with immediate effect, aligning the organisation more closely with the league it oversees.
The top division will continue to be known as the Women’s Super League (WSL), with both tiers now united under the WSL brand umbrella.
This marks the first major initiative by WSL Football since taking over governance of the top two women’s leagues from the Football Association in August 2024.
WSL Football said the new brand identity is “born from the movement of female footballers” and features “living emblems, colour systems, and wordmarks inspired by on-pitch movement.”
Chief Marketing Officer Ruth Hooper stated:
“There is a lot more in store over the coming months as we continue to grow the women’s game for the future.”
The WSL season concluded on Saturday, with Chelsea securing their sixth consecutive league title, while Crystal Palace were relegated to the second tier.
Earlier this month, London City Lionesses made history by becoming the first fully independent women’s club — not affiliated with a men’s side — to earn promotion to the Women’s Super League.
