Sunderland’s season is far from over, with the promotion playoffs looming large on the horizon. The Black Cats are determined to secure their place in next season's Premier League. While their main focus remains on promotion to the top tier of English football, off-field matters continue to make headlines.

The latest development comes from the German press, with a significant update regarding the future of Sunderland’s young star, Jobe Bellingham.

Dortmund to Leverage Bellingham Family Ties for Jobe Transfer

According to reports from BILD, Borussia Dortmund's board has made the decision to pursue the signing of Jobe Bellingham for the 2025-2026 season. Journalist Maximilian Wessing, writing for the outlet, claims that Dortmund’s scouts have been impressed by the 19-year-old midfielder's development in recent seasons.

Anyone familiar with the play of Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham's younger brother will quickly understand why Jobe is attracting significant interest. Internally, it has been agreed that Dortmund should make a serious attempt to bring him to the club. Some members of the BVB staff have maintained close contact with the Bellingham family, a relationship that dates back to Jude's time at Borussia Dortmund (2020-2023). Particularly strong ties have remained with Jobe's father, Mark.

Moreover, as noted by Wessing, Dortmund’s established relationship with the Bellingham family gives them an edge over other interested clubs.

It was recently reported that Real Madrid is also keen on signing Sunderland’s gem. However, they will face a tough challenge in persuading the young midfielder, given BVB’s reputation for nurturing young talent.

Wessing did, however, point out a potential hurdle for Dortmund: Jobe, who was recently named the best young player in the English second division, is determined to play in the Champions League. Therefore, Dortmund’s qualification for Europe’s top competition next season will be crucial in boosting their chances of securing the midfielder's signature.

According to BILD, a potential transfer for Jobe would see Sunderland receive a fee in the region of 25 to 30 million euros.
