Celtic will host Newcastle United on Saturday, 19th July 2025, in a special pre-season match at Celtic Park.

The League Cup winners of Scotland and England will face off as they continue their preparations for the 2025/26 season. The match will carry a competitive edge as both teams strive to claim the coveted adidas Trophy.

Newcastle United made history this season when they won the Carabao Cup in March, defeating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley. The final was filled with emotion as Eddie Howe guided his team to their first domestic trophy in 70 years.

The celebratory scenes in Newcastle will long be remembered, and the Geordies will make the short journey north to Glasgow in their thousands to take on Scotland’s League Cup winners.

Celtic also achieved success in their respective competition, adding a 22nd League Cup title to their cabinet in December after another victory over Rangers, securing the Premier Sports Cup for Brendan Rodgers' team.

Brendan Rodgers said: “I’m really looking forward to this match in the summer, and I think it will be a great occasion for both sets of players and supporters, as well as being really important in our build-up to next year.”

“Eddie and his team, like ourselves, have had a great season, and I know we’ll face a tough test from a top Premier League side. As champions, we aim to have a good pre-season to prepare for the challenges next season, both at home and abroad. This exciting match will be excellent preparation for us.”

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe added: “Travelling to Glasgow to face Celtic is a great opportunity to test ourselves as we gear up for Premier League and European football next season. We’ll be up against a top team at an historic ground, with a large away crowd there to support us.”
