Brazilian police foiled a bomb plot against Lady Gaga's Rio concert, arresting two suspects who planned attacks using explosives and Molotov cocktails. Over 2 million people attended the free show, which proceeded without incident.

Brazilian police reported on Sunday that they had successfully foiled a bomb plot targeting a packed Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro the day before. Two individuals were arrested in coordinated raids carried out across multiple states.

The police revealed in a statement that the suspects were attempting to recruit participants, including minors, to carry out synchronized attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails. The plan was described as a "collective challenge," aimed at gaining notoriety on social media.

Official numbers indicate that over 2 million people attended the free concert, which took place at Rio's iconic Copacabana Beach.

A tip-off from Rio state police intelligence led authorities to uncover online cells that were encouraging violent behavior among teenagers. According to the Justice Ministry, the individuals behind the plot identified themselves as members of Lady Gaga’s global fan base, known as the “Little Monsters.”

Among the arrests, police detained a man in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, believed to be the leader of the group, for illegal possession of a firearm. In addition, a teenager in Rio de Janeiro was arrested for storing child pornography.

Authorities executed more than a dozen search and seizure warrants across several states, including Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, and Sao Paulo.

Photos captured fans gathering at the iconic Copacabana Beach late at night, anticipating the concert, which was scheduled to begin around 9:45 p.m. local time. Organizers estimated that 2.1 million people attended the concert, with thousands arriving much earlier in the day.

The concert was funded by the city government as part of an effort to boost local tourism. Similar events are planned to take place every year until at least 2028.

Rio's City Hall confirmed that Lady Gaga’s performance went ahead as planned, without incident, with fans turning the beach into a dance floor.

This show marked Gaga’s first concert in Brazil since 2012. She even appeared the night before to greet fans who had gathered early to watch her soundcheck. “I’ve missed you so much,” she told the crowd. “I know this is not the first show here, I know this is just a rehearsal, but it feels like the real show.”
