Inspector Stephen Enang of the Nigerian Police Force died suddenly on Tuesday night while watching the Arsenal vs. Real Madrid UEFA Champions League match at a viewing centre in Calabar. Despite celebrating Arsenal's goals, he was found unconscious after the game and was confirmed dead at the hospital. Attempts to contact the state Police command for comment were unsuccessful.

Inspector Stephen Enang, an officer of the Nigerian Police Force, tragically passed away on Tuesday night while watching the UEFA Champions League match between Arsenal and Real Madrid at a football viewing centre in Calabar. Enang, a dedicated Arsenal fan, was serving with the Akim Police Division along IBB Way in Calabar at the time of his death.

He was a familiar face at the football viewing centre located on Abang-Asang Street, within the Calabar Municipality Local Government Area of Cross River. The incident occurred while he was watching the match, and it was reported that he showed no signs of illness before the game. In fact, he was visibly excited as Arsenal scored their first, second, and third goals.

A friend of the late inspector, who requested to remain anonymous, revealed that Enang was found unconscious after the final whistle. The friend recounted, “Before the match, he was healthy and in good spirits. There was no sign of any health issues. He was a very quiet, soft-spoken individual who loved football and was a dedicated Arsenal fan. He was also an Inspector of Police at the Akim Police Division. We were all enjoying the match together. When Arsenal scored the first goal, he was jubilant, as he was for the second and third goals. He jumped up in celebration each time. However, after the third goal, when he sat back in his chair to wait for the final whistle, we didn’t realize that he had passed away. It was only after the game, when everyone else was leaving the viewing centre, that we noticed he hadn’t stood up like the others. That was when we discovered he was unconscious. He was quickly rushed to the Police hospital at Akim, but despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he was confirmed dead.”

Attempts to obtain a statement from the state Police command were unsuccessful. The spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, did not answer calls made to her mobile number, nor did she respond to messages seeking comment on the incident.
