Fire at Nursing Home in Northern China Claims 20 Lives

A fire at a nursing home in northern China's Hebei province has claimed the lives of twenty people, according to Beijing's state news agency Xinhua, which reported the tragedy on Wednesday. The fire began on Tuesday night at the nursing home in Longhua County, situated approximately 180 kilometers northeast of Beijing.
By Wednesday morning, authorities confirmed that 20 individuals had died in the blaze. Additionally, other elderly residents of the facility have been moved to nearby hospitals for observation and treatment, Xinhua reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fatal fires are not uncommon in China, often attributed to lax building regulations and insufficient workplace safety measures.
Earlier this year, a fire at a vegetable market in Zhangjiakou city, northwest of Beijing, resulted in eight fatalities and 15 injuries. In December, another fire at a construction site in Rongcheng city in eastern China claimed the lives of nine people.
