Jet Set Nightclub Roof Collapse Kills 98

Since the tragic roof collapse at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo during the early hours of Tuesday, the number of confirmed fatalities has continued to rise. The well-known venue, in operation for five decades, was hosting a merengue concert that drew the attendance of various politicians and athletes. During the event, the roof of the single-storey structure suddenly gave way, crashing down onto the crowded dancefloor. Authorities have now confirmed 98 deaths, including beloved Dominican merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who was performing on stage at the time of the disaster.
Approximately 160 individuals sustained injuries. As rescue teams continued searching through the debris for potential survivors, concerned relatives and onlookers gathered at the scene, desperate for updates on missing loved ones.
Simultaneously, many people waited at the Institute of Forensic Science in hopes of identifying the deceased. Dominican officials have yet to issue a formal statement regarding the incident, though an investigation into the reasons behind the roof’s collapse is reportedly forthcoming.
