Woman allegedly killed by husband during unsupervised prison visit in Germany.
Germany: Inmate Suspected of Killing Wife During Unsupervised Prison Visit

Police and prosecutors are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a 35-year-old woman who died during or after a visit with her husband at Burg Prison, a correctional facility located in the eastern German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
According to prosecutors, the woman was found dead following an unsupervised visit with her 37-year-old husband in one of the prison’s designated long-term visitor areas. It is believed that the husband killed her during this visit. These long-term visitor spaces are designed to allow inmates and their families a degree of privacy, and as such, are not subject to surveillance or direct supervision.
Public prosecutors in the city of Stendal have filed charges against the man on suspicion of manslaughter.
An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Friday to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death, with results expected early next week.
The Stendal police department has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
Burg Prison, a facility developed through a public-private partnership, is the largest correctional institution in Saxony-Anhalt and has the capacity to house up to 650 male inmates. Constructed in 2009, it is considered one of the most modern maximum-security prisons in Germany.
