At least 89 people were killed in Omdurman by the RSF, which is accused of looting and forcing locals to transport stolen goods. Many have fled to Jabal Awlia, as Sudan faces a major displacement crisis. The military has gained control of central Sudan and is focusing on Darfur.

At least 89 people have been killed in a series of attacks in a cluster of villages in the Sudanese city of Omdurman, according to a Sudanese human rights organization. The assault, carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), resulted in numerous injuries, with the RSF using random artillery shelling and direct gunfire. The Emergency Lawyer’s Association has accused the RSF of violating human rights and international law. The organization stated that RSF forces engaged in widespread looting of homes and shops, arrested several young men from the villages, and forced them at gunpoint to transport the stolen goods.

As a result of the violence, many residents have fled to the Jabal Awlia area, hoping to find safety. Sudan is already experiencing the largest displacement crisis in its history, with an estimated 8.8 million people forced from their homes and relocated to camps and other areas within Sudan. In addition, 3.5 million people have fled the country, seeking refuge in neighboring nations, according to the United Nations.

On the battlefield, the RSF is facing significant setbacks. The military has managed to gain control of central Sudan, and the army’s next objective appears to be regaining control of Darfur.
