Bomb Blast Targets Somali President’s Convoy, He Remains Unharmed

Soon after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's convoy departed from the grounds of the presidential palace, a powerful bomb blast struck the motorcade.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the explosion may have resulted in the deaths of up to three people, though no official confirmation regarding casualties has been released. Despite the attack, government sources have assured that the president was unharmed. He continued his journey to Middle Shabelle in southern Somalia, where he is overseeing ongoing military operations against the extremist group al-Shabab.
Al-Shabab, a militant organization that opposes Somalia’s federal authorities, is notorious for carrying out bombings and coordinated assaults targeting government officials and military personnel. However, this marks only the second time since 2014 that President Mohamud has been directly targeted in such an attack.
In recent weeks, the Somali government has intensified its campaign against al-Shabab, aiming to weaken the group’s control over rural areas of the country. The militants continue to pose a significant threat to the government's stability and authority in the Horn of Africa, making the fight against them a critical priority for Somalia’s leadership.
