West Ham United have expressed their frustration over the legitimacy of Bruno Guimarães’ winning goal for Newcastle United on Monday night, believing it should have been disallowed.
West Ham United Lodge Complaint to Sky Sports Over Alexander Isak Incident in Newcastle United Victory

Guimarães secured Newcastle’s 1-0 victory at the London Stadium, volleying in a cross from Harvey Barnes during the second half. However, controversy arose off the ball as West Ham defender Max Kilman claimed he was fouled by Alexander Isak while attempting to clear the cross.
Isak appeared to push Kilman in the back moments before Guimarães found the net, but VAR opted not to intervene, allowing the goal to stand.
Kilman later spoke to Sky Sports, insisting that he had been fouled by the Newcastle striker.
Kilman’s Frustration Over VAR Decision
When asked if he believed he had been fouled, Kilman responded:
"100%. I jumped in the air and felt a hard push. I felt it was a foul and that it should have been given.
"Of course, we had chances after that, so it is tough to take – but we have to move on."
Potter Points to Isak’s Reaction as Evidence
West Ham head coach Graham Potter also raised concerns about the incident, suggesting that Isak’s reaction and lack of celebration could indicate that a foul had been committed.
"I thought it was a committed performance from us," Potter told Sky Sports after the match.
"The game ebbed and flowed. We’re disappointed with the goal – it looks like two hands in the back of our centre-back.
"We had some moments, not enough to win it, but we showed enough commitment to deserve something from the game.
"A two-handed push in the box – you can see from the reaction of the striker that he thought it could have been a foul.
"The attitude and effort were there in a really tight game against a very physical and intense team. We fell short in terms of our objective.
"We didn’t deserve to win the game, but we certainly deserved something from it."
Newcastle’s ‘Best’ Win of the Season
Reflecting on the victory, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe hailed the performance as one of the team’s best of the season.
"A massive win, a massive, massive win," Howe told The Gazette.
"It wasn’t our best game, but for me, it was one of our best performances of the season. It was always going to be a tight game. It’s a difficult ground to play at and a tough team to face, but I thought we dug in, showed discipline, and displayed the defensive solidity we have been lacking in recent weeks.
"We defended our goal magnificently. I’m very, very pleased with the entire team because we’ve had a challenging week, and this was a brilliant response.
"We needed the players to give everything, to prove that we’re still competitive and capable of winning games.
"We’ve lost some key players recently, and the only way to rebuild belief is through winning. You can prepare as much as you like, but victory is the final missing piece.
"And today, we did it. We defended much better, and after recent weeks, we really needed to."
