The WWII PM's Suit And Other Churchilliana Were Sold For Multi-Thousand Pound Sums At An Auction In Berkshire

A suit belonging to the former Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill, has sold at an auction in Bekshire, England, for £7,440 ($8,819) along with various other pieces of Churchilliana.

The grey pin-striped suit, authenticated to be Churchill's in 1975, was the main attraction at the auction, holding a guide price of £6,000 ($7,094).

Sir Winston Churchill served as British Prime Minister during WWII from 1940 to 1945, before returning for a second time between 1951 and 1955, 10 years later he would pass away at the age of 90 from a stroke.

The auction, which is still ongoing, is centered around the former Prime Minister, with over £11,000 ($13,025) being made so far.

The collection includes: Churchill's Austen Reed suit worn during his second term as PM, a Coalport vase featuring his childhood home of Blenheim Palace, his pair of Royal Doulton toby jugs, His old Mauser C96 pistol he named: "The Ripper" (After Whitechapel serial killer and alleged cannibal Jack the Ripper), his old ashtray, an unopened pack of his famous cigars, and numerous other unsold items. 

Sir Winston Churchill Specialist, Adam Ingult, stated that: "The rarer and more unique items have been sought after by both domestic and international buyers.

We have already had interest from buyers for unsold lots and expect them to be snatched up at the auction house's leftover sales this November".

In a separate sale of Churchilliana in London last March, Sir Winston Churchill's old cigar box sold for £89,000 ($101,572) and his slippers snagged £40,000 ($94,828).
