Real Madrid dismantled Manchester City to book their place in the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday, while Paris Saint-Germain confirmed their qualification with a resounding victory over Brest.
Real Madrid Outclass Manchester City as PSG Cruise into Champions League Last 16

Kylian Mbappé struck twice in the first half before completing his hat-trick on the hour mark at the Santiago Bernabéu, as the European champions secured a 3-1 win in the second leg of their play-off tie, sealing a 6-3 aggregate triumph.
"I said it before—I didn't come to Real Madrid to play badly," Mbappé told Movistar. "Fulfilling my dream is one thing, but I want to perform well here, define an era, and make history at Real Madrid."
Carlo Ancelotti’s side will face either city rivals Atlético Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen, managed by former Real midfielder Xabi Alonso, in the last 16. The draw will take place on Friday.
"The better team won—they deserve to be there, and we don’t," admitted City boss Pep Guardiola.
After two late goals in the first leg tilted the tie heavily in Madrid’s favour, City suffered another setback before kick-off as Erling Haaland was only deemed fit enough for the bench.
Mbappé's Masterclass
Mbappé extended Madrid’s advantage in just the fourth minute, capitalising on a defensive mix-up. Rúben Dias and John Stones failed to deal with Raúl Asencio’s long ball, allowing Mbappé to slip through and lift his effort over Ederson.
The French forward doubled his tally with a sharp finish following a slick team move, before completing his hat-trick with a precise left-footed strike from the edge of the area.
Nico González pulled one back for City in stoppage time, reacting quickest after Omar Marmoush’s fierce free-kick rebounded off the crossbar.
The only sour note for Madrid was a yellow card for Jude Bellingham, ruling the England international out of the first leg of the last 16.
For City, attention now shifts to salvaging a Champions League place for next season after a disastrous domestic campaign, despite having won the last four Premier League titles.
"It’s been our worst season... We've been an incredible team, but this year, for many reasons, we’ve lost our consistency," Guardiola conceded.
PSG Humiliate Brest
Paris Saint-Germain humiliated Brest with a 7-0 demolition at the Parc des Princes, securing an emphatic 10-0 aggregate victory.
Seven different players found the net for the French champions, who are hitting their stride at the perfect time. Bradley Barcola and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck in the first half, before Vitinha, Désiré Doué, Nuno Mendes, Gonçalo Ramos, and Senny Mayulu completed the rout.
It was PSG’s largest-ever winning margin in a European competition. Having scored just three goals in their first five Champions League matches this season, Luis Enrique’s side have since found the net 21 times in their last five games.
"I think we're proving that winning everything is possible," Kvaratskhelia told Canal Plus. "We approach every match with a winning mentality—that’s our goal and our dream."
PSG now face a blockbuster clash against either Liverpool or Barcelona, while Brest’s first-ever European campaign ended in humiliating fashion against a club they have not beaten in 40 years.
"It’s a disgrace to go out like this. Losing 7-0 is unacceptable. Yes, Paris are a great team, and I hope they go all the way, but this is embarrassing," fumed Brest midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou.
PSV Stun Juventus in Extra Time
PSV Eindhoven produced a thrilling comeback to knock out Juventus 4-3 on aggregate, overturning a first-leg deficit with a 3-1 home victory after extra time.
Timothy Weah cancelled out Ivan Perišić’s early opener for PSV, before Ismael Saibari levelled the tie, forcing extra time.
Defender Ryan Flamingo scored the decisive goal in the 98th minute, tapping in from close range to send PSV through at the expense of Thiago Motta’s Juventus. Arsenal or Inter Milan await the Dutch side in the next round.
Dortmund March On
Borussia Dortmund progressed to the last 16 with a goalless draw against Sporting Lisbon, securing a 3-0 aggregate win.
The competition’s leading scorer, Serhou Guirassy, missed a second-half penalty, but Dortmund rarely looked troubled as last season’s runners-up eased through.
Their next challenge will be against either Aston Villa or Lille in the next round.
