Ethiopia and Rwanda Extend Condolences to Türkiye Following Deadly Hotel Fire
Ethiopia and Rwanda have both sent their condolences following a deadly fire disaster at a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in northern Türkiye.
Ethiopia's foreign ministry released a statement expressing the country’s deep sorrow over the tragic loss of life caused by the fire. The ministry extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those who were injured in the disaster.
Rwanda's President, Paul Kagame, also sent his "heartfelt condolences" to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the people of Türkiye. In a post on the X platform, he conveyed his thoughts to the families of the victims and to all those impacted by the tragedy, extending wishes for recovery to those who sustained injuries.
The fire at the ski resort claimed at least 76 lives and left 51 others injured, according to Türkiye's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya. Of the injured, 17 were discharged from the hospital, while one person remains in intensive care, as reported by Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu.
The fire began at approximately 3:27 am local time (0027 GMT) in the restaurant area of the Kartalkaya ski resort hotel and quickly spread throughout the building, according to Bolu Governor Abdulaziz Aydin.
In response to the disaster, Türkiye has declared a day of national mourning on Wednesday. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on Tuesday, expressed his deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, offering prayers for their peace and a swift recovery for the injured. He also assured the public that those responsible for the tragedy, whether due to negligence or misconduct, would be held accountable and face justice.
