Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has responded to Taylor Swift's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, acknowledging his status as a 'fellow cat owner.'

Walz, who is Kamala Harris's running mate on the Democratic ticket, appeared on MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show on Tuesday night, shortly after the presidential debate concluded and news emerged of Swift's public support for Harris.

"I am incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift, and I say that as a fellow cat owner," Walz quipped after Maddow read part of Swift's passionate Instagram post endorsing Harris, as reported by Billboard.

He went on to praise Harris for her 'eloquent' and 'clear' performance during the debate, adding that she embodies the 'type of courage we need in America to stand up.'

Walz used the opportunity to reflect on the significance of such endorsements in today's political climate, saying: "We've seen it from Republicans who stood up at the DNC.

"We've seen it from women who would prefer to keep their personal lives private but are forced to speak out because they have nearly died due to lack of access to abortion services.

"And now you have someone like Taylor Swift making her position clear. This is the opportunity, Swifties: KamalaHarris.com, get on over there, get things moving."

Swift, known for her significant influence and devoted fan base, as well as her chart-topping hits, took to Instagram to clarify her political stance following a wave of AI-generated content falsely claiming she had endorsed Donald Trump.

Her post not only condemned the misuse of artificial intelligence to spread misinformation but also outlined her reasons for supporting Harris and Walz.

She wrote: "Recently, I was made aware that AI of 'me' falsely endorsing Donald Trump's presidential run was posted to his site. It really heightened my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation."

"It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth."

Swift continued: "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them."

"I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can achieve much more in this country if we are led by calm rather than chaos."

"I was so heartened and impressed by her choice of running mate @timwalz, who has been advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body for decades."

As the 2024 election season intensifies, Swift's involvement marks a significant moment, highlighting the role of celebrity voices in shaping the political discourse.

Meanwhile, Republicans were outraged at ABC News moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis for failing to fact-check Kamala Harris's incorrect statements about Donald Trump's views on IVF.

Muir and Davis had previously attempted to fact-check Trump during the debate on issues such as the Capitol riot and a claim about migrant crime. However, Harris incorrectly stated that Trump was against in vitro fertilisation during the debate.
