La Liga giants FC Barcelona announced two transfers on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Around 9 p.m. on Friday, Barça sent an email to members of the press stating: "FC Barcelona and Deportivo de La Coruña have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Ruben Lopez for one season, until 30th June 2025."

"The agreement includes an option for the Barcelona club to purchase the player at the end of the season. Ruben Lopez will join Barça Atlètic in the coming days, with the official signing ceremony to be scheduled," the email continued.

According to the regional newspaper La Voz de Galicia, Barcelona will have the option to acquire Lopez for approximately £4.3 million (€5 million) if he performs well, while Deportivo will retain a percentage of any future sale of the player, who is under contract with them until 2028.

Though eager to leave Deportivo, the midfielder has been praised for ensuring that his departure—whether temporary or permanent—benefits all parties involved.

Then, at around 11:20 p.m. local time in Catalonia, just minutes before the transfer window closed, Barça announced that they had reached an agreement with the Accra Lions for the transfer of David Oduro, who will also join Barça Atlètic.

Oduro, who becomes the first Ghanaian to don the Blaugrana, has agreed to a three-year stint with Barça's reserve team until 30th June 2027. He is set to travel to Barcelona in the coming days to commence training and finalise his contract.

A fast left-back who has drawn comparisons to Alphonso Davies, Oduro was also a target for Chelsea, meaning that for the second consecutive summer, Barça have beaten the Premier League club to the signing of a promising 18-year-old African talent.

This echoes the situation 14 months ago when Barça signed Mika Faye, who also joined Barça Atlètic.

In the long term, however, Lopez and Oduro will hope to follow a path similar to that of Pau Victor rather than their 2022/23 teammate Faye.

While Faye has since been sold to Rennes, Victor was permanently signed from Girona after his loan spell and is now a permanent member of Hansi Flick’s first team.
