Raheem Sterling believes that Arsenal are the “perfect fit” for him after completing a deadline day move from Chelsea.

Arsenal have signed Sterling on loan for the season, and the club are confident they have secured a favourable deal with Chelsea regarding the payment of the winger’s £300,000-a-week wages.

There is no option for a permanent transfer next summer, but Sterling is hopeful that his stint with Arsenal will reignite his career.

The 29-year-old fell out of favour at Chelsea this summer under new head coach Enzo Maresca and even had his squad number taken away.

Arsenal have offered Sterling a lifeline, and the winger is confident that he can excel at the Emirates Stadium this season.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. It’s really exciting. I’m buzzing,” said Sterling.

“It was a move we nearly left too late, but it was one I was hoping for. Looking at everything, I just thought, ‘This is a perfect fit for me,’ and I’m absolutely thrilled we managed to finalise it.”

Arsenal’s sporting director Edu played a key role in persuading Sterling to make the switch to north London, which the player was eager to do.

This move will see the England international reunite with Mikel Arteta, with whom he previously worked at Manchester City.

Arteta was one of Pep Guardiola’s assistants at the time and is credited with helping Sterling develop into a goal-scoring winger.

“I spoke with Edu and mentioned that you can sense the togetherness and unity from Mikel’s time here,” said Sterling.

“You can see the journey that the team are on, and you notice the hunger and drive. I keep saying it – the togetherness is something I’m eager to be a part of.”

Sterling has not been called up by England for the latest round of international fixtures, allowing him to spend the time working with Arsenal.

He could make his debut in Arsenal’s first match after the break, which is the North London derby against Tottenham on 15th September.
