Police informed WPVI that more than 100 people were present at the scene for the party.

Nine people were shot, three of whom died, following a gunfire incident involving multiple gunmen early Sunday morning at a party in Philadelphia, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. on the 1200 block of North Alden Street in the Carroll Park neighborhood of West Philadelphia. At the time, a party with over 100 attendees was in progress, as reported by the Philadelphia Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers discovered victims with gunshot wounds and found numerous spent shell casings scattered around the area, as stated by Philadelphia police Inspector D.F. Pace during a news conference at the scene.

"It appears that there were multiple shooters. The exact number is unclear at this point, but we have found at least 25 to 30 spent shell casings," Pace noted. "We are uncertain whether this was a block party or simply a gathering of people invited from various parts of the city. The details remain unclear."

Initially, Pace reported that ten people had been shot, including the three fatalities. However, the latest update from the police on Sunday confirmed that nine people were shot in total.

Officials recovered one gun at the scene. Preliminary information suggests that the shooting resulted from an exchange of gunfire between multiple parties, leading to nine injuries and three deaths. The recovered shell casings indicate that different caliber weapons were used, which aligns with the notion of a gunfire exchange among individuals present.

Investigators are working to identify those involved in the shooting. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the names of the deceased victims have not been released.

The motive behind the shooting is also under investigation, according to police.

The deceased victims were three men, aged 23, 29, and 33. One died at the scene, while the other two were taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

The remaining shooting victims include a 26-year-old woman and five men aged between 26 and 30, all of whom are listed in stable condition. Two of the survivors were transported to hospitals in private vehicles.
