Kenyan police have announced the arrest of a man who confessed to the killings of multiple women, following the discovery of bags containing dismembered bodies in a Nairobi slum located in the southern part of the capital.
Kenyan Police Arrest Suspect in Dumped bodies Case
Kenyan police reported on Monday that they had apprehended a man suspected of dumping several dismembered bodies in a Nairobi slum. Mohamed Amin, the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, disclosed that the 33-year-old suspect confessed to murdering 42 women, including his wife, since 2022.
"We are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life," Amin told reporters.
The suspect was arrested early Monday morning near a Nairobi bar where he had been watching the Euro 2024 football finals. Amin explained that officers identified the suspect after examining a mobile phone belonging to one of the victims. He also revealed that the suspect was in the process of luring another victim shortly before his arrest.
Police found that the suspect's one-room residence was located just 100 meters (328 feet) from where the bodies were discovered. Inside the suspect's home, officers found a machete, nylon sacks, rope, a pair of industrial gloves, a "pink female handbag," and "two female panties."
The discovery of the dismembered bodies in sacks came after relatives of a missing woman reported having a dream that instructed them to search a nearby garbage dump. In total, nine female bodies were found at the site in Nairobi's southern Mukuru slums.
Acting police Inspector General Douglas Kanja noted that officers from a nearby police station were reassigned to support the ongoing investigations. Local residents had previously accused the police of negligence in addressing missing persons cases reported in the area.
Kenyan law enforcement has faced increased scrutiny following the deaths of several protesters during anti-government demonstrations.
