Thiago Silva will rejoin Fluminense on a two-year deal after leaving Chelsea, where he played over 150 games and won the Champions League. He returns to his former club before his Chelsea contract ends on July 1. Silva was also named Chelsea's Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season and received a warm farewell from fans during his last home match.

Thiago Silva is poised to rejoin his former club Fluminense on a two-year deal when his contract with Chelsea expires at the end of the season. The 39-year-old will return to the club where he spent three seasons between 2006 and 2008, making 143 appearances. He has been granted permission to join his new side before his Stamford Bridge contract expires on July 1.

His departure comes after four years in west London, during which he played over 150 games since arriving on a free transfer from Paris St Germain and won the Champions League in 2021.

Acknowledging Silva’s impact, Chelsea stated: “He has also developed a strong connection with Blues supporters and was named the club’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.”

The Brazil international received a standing ovation from fans when he was substituted towards the end of Sunday’s 5-0 home win against West Ham, recognising his service to the club.

He is set to make his final appearance at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea face Bournemouth on the last day of the Premier League season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team, prior to that fixture, have away matches against Nottingham Forest and Brighton and require a strong finish to surpass sixth-placed Newcastle and secure European football for next season.
