Polish security services have uncovered wiretapping devices in a meeting room. However, the two intelligence agencies involved have not disclosed their suspicions regarding who might be responsible for the attempted bugging.

A Polish security services official stated on Tuesday that devices had been discovered and dismantled in a government meeting room scheduled for use by ministers. The official mentioned that it was unclear how long the devices had been present, opting not to speculate on who may have planted them.

Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for the State Protection Service, announced on X, formerly Twitter, that in collaboration with the Internal Security Agency, they had uncovered and dismantled eavesdropping devices in the room designated for today's Council of Ministers meeting in Katowice.

"The services are continuing their investigations in this matter," he added.

The Cabinet convened in Katowice, a southwestern Polish city, where Prime Minister Donald Tusk was attending an economic conference.

Dobrzynski informed Poland's TVN24 television that the equipment was capable of recording both audio and video. "It's difficult to ascertain whether these devices were installed years ago and remained undetected until now," he remarked, "or if they were installed more recently."

The Cabinet typically convenes for its weekly meeting in Warsaw but relocated it to Katowice due to the conference.

The discovery comes at a time when Poland and other NATO members are increasingly targeted by Russian espionage following Moscow's invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

This revelation follows a Polish judge's flight to neighboring Belarus and his reported request for asylum over alleged spying accusations that he claims were "fabricated."

In March, Polish authorities conducted searches in connection with a suspected Russian spy network in Poland, using intelligence provided by the Czech Republic.

Polish prosecutors have initiated an espionage investigation into the judge.

Additionally, last month, a Russian historical reenactment enthusiast was jailed in Poland for spying on the military of the European Union country on behalf of the Kremlin.
