The actress demonstrated she's still as stylish as ever as she made her first appearance at the Met Gala in over two decades.

"Meg Ryan, the beloved rom-com icon, made a dazzling return to the Met Gala after more than 20 years. She appeared on the red carpet in New York City wearing a striking black Michael Kors gown adorned with sheer panels and floral embellishments.

Sporting her classic blonde wavy lob hairstyle, the 62-year-old actress posed for photographs alongside Michael Kors, 64, showcasing a range of poses with a beaming smile.

Ryan's last appearance at the Met Gala was in 2001 when she chose a knee-length dress featuring a pearly white bodice and black pleated skirt, paired with strappy black kitten heels. Her hairstyle then was similar in length but styled straight, reflecting the trends of the era. The theme of the 2001 Met Gala was "Jacqueline Kennedy: The White House Years," contrasting with this year's theme, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."

The Met Gala marks just one of Ryan's recent fashion statements. While promoting her romantic comedy What Happens Later last month, she channelled her iconic '90s style in a chic tan maxi skirt, a black vest top, and chunky black shoes.

Renowned for her roles in films like When Harry Met Sally (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and You've Got Mail (1998), Ryan became a fashion icon of the '80s and '90s. Her laid-back yet polished looks set trends at the time and have resurfaced in recent fashion cycles.

In autumn last year, TikTok creators embraced Ryan's trademark cosy style—think chunky sweaters, oversized blazers, and loafers—dubbing the season “Meg Ryan Fall.”

Responding to the trend in an October 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Ryan expressed her delight, calling it "so sweet" and "the cutest thing ever."

Featured on the cover of Glamour's December 2023 issue to promote What Happens Later—her first movie since 2015—Ryan shared her positive outlook on ageing.

“Our culture is so obsessed with youth,” she reflected. “As an older person now, I love my age. I love where I’m at.”

“We’re all doing it. I wish someone had told me earlier, ‘Just relax. It is what it is. Don’t pay attention to the obstacles,’” Ryan added."
