The Premier League has announced that referee Jarred Gillett will wear a 'RefCam' during tonight's clash between Crystal Palace and Manchester United at Selhurst Park.

In a first for the Premier League, Gillett will wear a camera as part of filming for a special programme showcasing match officials. The footage won't be shown live, but fans will be able to view it at a later date.

The captured footage will be used in a programme produced by Premier League Productions, aiming to provide more insights into the demands of refereeing in the league.

A statement from the Premier League explained that "the technology being used comprises a head-mounted device integrated into the usual communications system" used by match officials. The decision for this filming has been approved by United, Palace, The International Football Association Board (IFAB), Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), and the Premier League. The Premier League also expressed gratitude to both Palace and United for their support with the project.

Gillett has officiated in 19 Premier League matches this season, issuing 84 yellow cards and two reds. He has been in charge of three United fixtures this term, including their recent 4-3 defeat at Chelsea.

In his refereeing career, Gillett has overseen five United matches, with the team winning three and losing two. His first United match was their 3-0 win over League One side Charlton Athletic in the League Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford last season.
