Canelo Alvarez retains his undisputed 168-pound title with a decision victory over Munguia at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez secured a unanimous decision victory over Mexican compatriot Jaime Munguia on Saturday, 4th May at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout headlined a four-fight PPV card, coinciding with the Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Canelo emerged victorious with scores of 117-110, 116-111, and 115-112. He scored a knockdown in the fourth round with a left hook-uppercut, solidifying his win and retaining the undisputed 168-pound title for the fourth time. The 33-year-old native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, now boasts a record of 61-2-2, with 39 knockouts.

“This win means a lot,” said Canelo. “I’m proud that the whole world is watching us Mexicans.”

Jaime Munguia, the former WBO super welterweight champion, suffered his first career defeat, dropping to 43-1 with 34 knockouts.

In other notable fights on the card, interim WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios defeated Fabian Andres Maidana by unanimous decision, while interim WBC featherweight titleholder Brandon Figueroa retained his belt with a ninth-round knockout against Jessie Magdaleno. Eimantas Stanionis, the WBA welterweight champion from Lithuania, also secured a unanimous decision win against Gabriel Maestre of Venezuela in the PPV opener.

Additionally, welterweight Jesus Ramos of Casa Grande, Arizona, achieved a ninth-round TKO victory over Venezuela’s Johan Gonzalez, and Vito Mielnicki Jr of Belleville, New Jersey, won by unanimous decision against Ronald Cruz of Los Angeles in a welterweight bout during the prelims.
