Lucas Hernandez is facing the prospect of missing Euro 2024 after injuring his ACL during Paris Saint-Germain's match against Borussia Dortmund. This setback comes less than two years after a similar injury at the 2022 World Cup. Hernandez will undergo surgery and is expected to be out of action for six to seven months. This is a significant blow for both Hernandez and PSG as they continue their season.

France star Lucas Hernandez is set to miss Euro 2024 after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) during Paris Saint-Germain's 1-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury to his left knee in the build-up to Borussia Dortmund's winning goal scored by Niclas Fullkrug at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday. Hernandez attempted to continue playing after receiving treatment but was substituted shortly after, with Lucas Beraldo coming on in his place.

Following a scan on Thursday, it was confirmed that Hernandez had suffered an ACL injury and will undergo surgery in the coming days, ruling him out of contention for France at the Euros. The former Bayern Munich defender is expected to be sidelined for six to seven months but could potentially return before the end of the year.

"An MRI scan carried out today confirmed the diagnosis made by the club's doctors on Wednesday evening. The player will undergo surgery in the next few days. A further update will follow," PSG stated.

This setback adds to Hernandez's history of serious injuries. He previously ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee just 13 minutes into France's opening match against Australia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which ruled him out for the entire tournament.

Hernandez has been a key player for PSG this season, featuring in 41 matches and starting in 10 of their 11 Champions League fixtures.

Following the defeat against Dortmund, PSG manager Enrique commented on the challenging match: "That's football. Sometimes it’s wonderful, and then other times, that’s how it goes. We’ll have to analyse the chances created by both teams. It was a difficult game. The dressing room is a bit down, especially after hitting the post twice. But we had our supporters pushing us on throughout the match. We must recognise that this is an exceptional stadium, with fans who know how to support their team."
