"The Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the 2024 European Off Road Running Championships in Annecy, France, has been announced. Athletes were selected based on competitive trial races, with seasoned and new talent joining the squad. Scout Adkin and Joe Steward lead the senior teams, while promising juniors like Edward Hobbs and Eve Whitaker are set for their international debuts."

The team representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland for the upcoming European Off Road Running Championships 2024 in Annecy, France, has been announced today.

Following the fiercely contested trial races last month, complete teams have been selected for the senior and junior uphill and up-and-down events, adding to the eight athletes previously chosen for the trail races last month.

Scout Adkin, a World and European medallist under the guidance of coach Angela Mudge from Ambleside AC, leads the senior women’s team after an impressive performance at the trial events in the Lake District last month. She clinched up-and-down bronze at the 2022 Europeans and is eyeing further success this time.

Joe Steward, winner of the uphill trials from Salford Harriers, has been selected for both senior men’s races in France alongside Kris Jones from Swansea Harriers, who triumphed in the up-and-down trial in Keswick. Steward, eighth at last year’s World Championships in Austria, aims for individual and team success in the French alpine town.

Eve Whitaker, who secured silver in the up-and-down race at the inaugural Championships in 2022, enters the U20 events with confidence following strong performances at the trials and has high aspirations for both races later this month.

In the junior men’s teams, several athletes will make their international debuts, with trials winners Edward Hobbs (up-and-down) and Angus Wright (uphill) leading in their respective events.

Team Leader Anne Buckley commented, “We witnessed exceptional performances in the trial races, and we are thrilled to include such skilled mountain runners in the team. Alongside our previously selected Trail athletes, we are assembling a highly competitive squad to challenge Europe.

“We not only have several seasoned internationals in the team, but it's also fantastic to see talented newcomers earning their spot in the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad.”
