Newcastle United has received more injury setbacks, with a fifth player ruled out for the rest of the Premier League season due to injury. This news adds to the club's ongoing challenges with player availability and squad fitness.

Newcastle United has suffered another blow as Matt Targett has been ruled out for the remainder of the Premier League season, adding to the list of sidelined players.

The 28-year-old left-back has faced ongoing injury challenges, having previously spent four months recovering from a hamstring injury sustained during the Carabao Cup win against Manchester United in November. Despite returning to the squad for matches against Chelsea and Manchester City in early March, Targett has not been involved since the international break.

Following a recent assessment, it has been confirmed that Targett will not feature again this season due to a new Achilles injury. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe indicated that although a return for the last game is possible with an accelerated recovery, it would be more prudent for Targett to focus on a full summer recovery.

Targett joins Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Joe Willock, and Lewis Miley on the list of players ruled out for the remaining fixtures against Sheffield United, Burnley, Brighton and Hove Albion, Manchester United, and Brentford.

Since permanently joining Newcastle from Aston Villa in 2022 for £15 million, Targett has been frustrated by limited playing time, starting just seven Premier League matches. During his loan spell, he started 16 games.

Looking ahead, Newcastle may consider options to restructure the squad during the summer transfer window. Dan Burn has been favored by Howe at left-back, with Tino Livramento also featuring in that role, while Lewis Hall's permanent transfer from Chelsea for an initial fee of £28 million is expected to further strengthen the squad.
