A brother and sister, aged five and eight, tragically lost their lives when a woman drove her vehicle 25ft into a building, as reported by the sheriff.

A young brother and sister tragically lost their lives, and several individuals sustained injuries, some severe, when a vehicle operated by a suspected intoxicated driver collided with a young child's birthday celebration at a boat club on Saturday, as reported by a Michigan sheriff.

An eight-year-old girl and her five-year-old brother tragically lost their lives at the scene when a 66-year-old woman crashed her vehicle 25ft into the building around 3pm at the Swan Creek Boat Club in Berlin Township, approximately 30 miles (48km) south of Detroit, according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.

First responders described the scene as extremely chaotic, with a heightened level of emotions among those directly involved and witnesses of the horrific incident," he said. Three children and six adults were transported to area hospitals by two helicopters or ambulances, some with life-threatening injuries," he said. "Others received first aid at the scene, and some were transported to hospitals by private vehicles.

Goodnough did not disclose the identity of the woman driving the vehicle but confirmed that she had been apprehended and taken into custody at the Monroe County Jail on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in death. He mentioned that she was cooperating with authorities and indicated that she might face additional charges as the investigation progresses.
