IPL - 17 | Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya fined for slow over rate against Punjab Kings

Mumbai Indians skipper, Hardik Pandya, has incurred a fine of ₹12 lakhs for his team's slow over rate during their recent thrilling nine-run victory over Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.

Despite Suryakumar Yadav's explosive innings of 78 off 53 deliveries propelling Mumbai Indians to a competitive total of 192/7, Punjab Kings, spurred by Ashutosh Sharma's rapid 61 and Shashank Singh's 41, fell short, managing 183 in 19.1 overs.

Following this crucial win, Mumbai Indians ascended from ninth to seventh place on the IPL 2024 points table, securing their third victory in seven games, while Punjab Kings slipped to ninth after suffering their fifth defeat.

An official IPL statement released on April 19 confirmed the fine imposed on Hardik Pandya, highlighting the slow over rate during the April 18 match at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. Given that this was Mumbai Indians' first offense of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct regarding minimum over rate violations, Pandya was fined ₹12 lakhs.

Mumbai Indians' next encounter is against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 22.
