Sean Patrick Palmer, a resident of Oklahoma, was arrested following the discovery of an explosive device near the porch of a Satanic Temple in Massachusetts last week.

An Oklahoma man, identified as Sean Patrick Palmer, 49, from Perkins, Oklahoma, was apprehended on Thursday morning for his alleged involvement in last week’s bombing attempt at a Satanic Temple in Massachusetts.

According to a statement from the United States’ attorney office for the district of Massachusetts, Palmer faces charges of “using an explosive to cause damage to a building used in interstate or foreign commerce.”

Contrary to misconceptions, the Satanic Temple does not venerate Satan or espouse belief in the supernatural; instead, it employs Satan as a symbol of free will, humanism, and anti-authoritarianism, which often incites reactions from right-wing groups and Christians.

The explosive device, constructed from plastic, metal nails, and tape, was discovered near the porch of the Satanic Temple's headquarters in Salem, Massachusetts. Preliminary analysis revealed it contained a powder-like substance identified as smokeless gunpowder.

Surveillance footage captured a figure dressed in black attire, including pants, a jacket, face covering, tactical vest, and gloves, approaching the temple around 4:14 a.m. on April 8, 2024. The individual, believed to be Palmer, deployed the pipe bomb, causing a partial detonation that resulted in minor external damage to the building.

Investigators linked Palmer to the incident through forensic evidence, notably a single human hair found on the explosive device, containing a DNA profile consistent with his description.

Palmer is expected to make his initial court appearance in the western district of Oklahoma before facing federal charges in Boston.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to a maximum of 20 years in prison and fined up to $250,000.

As of now, the Satanic Temple has not issued a statement regarding the incident.
