Authorities announced on Wednesday that clashes in the Central African Republic have resulted in the deaths of at least 30 individuals.

The United Nations' mission in the Central African Republic issued a statement on Wednesday, urging rebels and militias to cease hostilities immediately following recent clashes that have resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people this month.

Despite a notable reduction in violence since 2018, the country has experienced sporadic outbreaks of conflict between armed rebel factions and the national army, supported by the Russian Wagner group and local militia organizations.

International non-governmental organizations and the United Nations consistently accuse all parties involved in the conflict of committing crimes and human rights abuses against civilian populations.

In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, the UN's MINUSCA mission strongly denounced the brutal killings carried out by armed groups in April.

MINUSCA's peacekeeping contingent, deployed since 2014, comprises approximately 14,000 soldiers from various nations stationed in the Central African Republic (CAR).

In a statement, MINUSCA reported that on April 2, "presumed elements" of the 3R rebel movement perpetrated a massacre, resulting in the deaths of 24 civilians, including women and children, in the town of Lime in the northwest region of the country.

Additionally, it noted the discovery of four civilian bodies on April 13 in the southeast, and on April 14, an unspecified number of casualties were found in the west.

MINUSCA urged armed groups and self-defense forces to cease hostilities and violence immediately, emphasizing the devastating impact on civilian populations.

In December 2020, President Faustin Archange Touadera sought assistance from Moscow as rebels advanced towards the capital, Bangui. Hundreds of Wagner paramilitaries were deployed to reinforce the existing contingent already present in the country.
