Police are investigating a house fire, expressing condolences to the affected family. Chief Superintendent Clare Jenkins assured that while inquiries are ongoing, it appears to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

A four-year-old boy is battling for survival after being rescued from a devastating house fire that claimed his father's life. Ethan Mason suffered severe burns covering most of his body after the blaze erupted in Wigan over the weekend.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene on Warrington Road around 2:30 am on Sunday, where the courageous father rescued his son from the flames before tragically succumbing to the fire himself.

Ethan is currently in a medically induced coma, with burns covering 70 percent of his body. According to the Liverpool ECHO, five others were also injured in the tragic fire.

Ethan's aunt, Jessica, has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to aid the family during this difficult time. In a heart-wrenching appeal on the fundraising page, she disclosed that Ethan faces only a slim 10 percent chance of survival following an emergency surgery conducted by medical professionals.

Jessica expressed profound sadness, emphasizing that Ethan's mother and siblings have lost everything in the fire. The GoFundMe aims to assist with funeral expenses, provide clothing and other necessities for the family, and alleviate the financial strain on Ethan's mother as she copes with the loss of her husband and cares for her hospitalized child.

Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire. Chief Superintendent Clare Jenkins of GMP's Wigan district stated on Sunday, "Our thoughts are with the family affected by this incident, who are currently receiving treatment for their injuries and mourning a tragic loss.

"While our inquiries, in collaboration with GMFRS, are ongoing and in early stages, we believe it is an isolated incident with no broader risk to the public."
