On Monday, a fatal shooting occurred outside a Walmart supercenter in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, leaving one man dead and another in custody.

The incident unfolded around 12:15 p.m., as two men engaged in an argument at the Walmart Supercenter in Young Township, Jefferson County, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The altercation resulted in a fatal gunshot wound to one of the individuals, stated the police.

Currently, the Troop C Crime Unit and state police members are investigating the incident. They assured that there are no threats to the general public, and the other individual involved is in custody.

The authorities have not yet released the names of the shooter or the victim.

A heavy police presence was observed at the Walmart, prompting the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company to advise the public to avoid the area. Meanwhile, the Punxsutawney Area School District implemented a precautionary measure called a "perimeter hold" at Punxsutawney Area High School and Punxsutawney Elementary School.

"During a Perimeter Hold, classes and instruction continue as normal within the building, but no one is permitted outside of the building until an 'All-Clear' is given by administrators and local law enforcement," the district explained on social media. "The 'All-Clear' was issued shortly after the Perimeter Hold, and PASD has resumed normal operations."

Walmart officials acknowledged the shooting incident and confirmed its occurrence in the parking lot.

“The safety of customers and associates is among our top priorities,” stated a spokesperson for the retailer to WJAC-TV. “We will collaborate with law enforcement as they proceed with their investigation and direct any additional inquiries to the police.”
