A 27-year-old woman has been arrested and charged with child neglect after a two-year-old girl was discovered alive inside a suitcase on a long-distance bus in New Zealand.
The shocking incident occurred at a rest stop in the small town of Kaiwaka, located in the northern part of the country. According to police, the alert bus driver had been repacking luggage during a scheduled stop when one of the suitcases began to move, prompting immediate concern.
In a statement, New Zealand Police said:
“The driver became concerned when he noticed the bag moving. When he opened the suitcase, he discovered the two-year-old girl inside.”
Police confirmed that the child appeared to be “very hot” but otherwise physically unharmed at the time of her discovery.
