Türkiye And Egypt Sign Defence Cooperation Deal To Strengthen Military Ties
Türkiye and Egypt have taken another step towards strengthening their relationship after signing a letter of intent aimed at expanding cooperation in the defence industry.
The agreement, signed in Ankara on Monday, is expected to provide a framework for future collaboration on defence production, military technology and joint capability development.
The move reflects the growing partnership between the two countries as they seek to deepen cooperation in key strategic sectors.
HIGH-LEVEL TALKS HELD IN ANKARA
Türkiye's Secretary of Defence Industries, Haluk Gorgun, hosted Egypt's Minister of Defence and Military Production, Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, and his delegation in the Turkish capital.
Zaher, who also serves as the commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, visited Ankara for discussions focused on defence cooperation between the two countries.
Officials from both sides held meetings on ways to strengthen military and industrial partnerships.
NEW AGREEMENT SETS FRAMEWORK FOR COOPERATION
Following the talks, both countries signed a letter of intent that will guide future defence cooperation.
According to Gorgun, the agreement will establish the framework for collaboration in the coming years and open the door for new defence projects.
He said the discussions focused on identifying areas where Türkiye and Egypt can jointly develop defence capabilities and increase cooperation in military production.
DEFENCE TIES EXPECTED TO GROW
Gorgun said stronger cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt would benefit both countries by improving their defence industries and boosting military capabilities.
He added that closer collaboration would also contribute to regional peace and security.
The Turkish defence chief thanked Zaher and the Egyptian delegation for what he described as productive and constructive discussions.
DEFENCE MINISTERS ALSO MEET
Earlier on Monday, Egyptian Defence Minister Zaher met Türkiye's National Defence Minister Yasar Guler.
The two ministers discussed ways to strengthen military relations and expand cooperation between their countries.
Although officials did not disclose details of their discussions, the meeting highlighted the growing level of engagement between Ankara and Cairo.
WHAT THE AGREEMENT MEANS
The letter of intent is expected to serve as the foundation for future defence cooperation between the two countries.
It could lead to joint defence projects, technology sharing and increased collaboration between their defence industries.
The agreement also reflects improving diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Egypt after years of strained ties.
Both governments are expected to continue discussions on defence, security and other areas of mutual interest as they work to strengthen bilateral relations.
