Erdoğan and Oman’s Sultan Discuss Regional Tensions, Diplomacy, and Humanitarian Concerns
Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq engaged in a detailed phone conversation to discuss the state of bilateral relations between their countries as well as the escalating security and humanitarian challenges in the Middle East. During the call, Erdoğan highlighted the regional instability caused by recent military actions, noting that attacks on Iran followed by retaliatory measures against neighbouring countries have created the risk of an unprecedented security crisis. He stressed that attacks targeting Oman are particularly unacceptable and must be addressed to prevent further deterioration of regional stability.
Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye continues to prioritize diplomatic efforts and mediation as a way to ease tensions, stating that these initiatives have not been abandoned despite the current complexities. He underlined that Türkiye remains committed to facilitating dialogue and maintaining communication channels to resolve conflicts peacefully and to support stability across the region.
The Turkish president also voiced strong criticism of Israel’s policies in occupied East Jerusalem, specifically condemning the Netanyahu government’s restrictions on Muslim access to the Al Aqsa Mosque. Erdoğan described these restrictions as unacceptable and stressed that they exacerbate tensions in an already volatile region. He also pointed to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, underlining the urgent need for aid and assistance to reach affected populations, and called for international efforts to alleviate suffering and prevent further escalation.
In addition to addressing immediate security and humanitarian issues, Erdoğan highlighted the importance of continuing the work of the recently established Board of Peace, which aims to advance the pursuit of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He emphasized that sustained diplomatic engagement is essential to achieving a long-term resolution and ensuring lasting peace in the region.
The conversation concluded on a positive and cordial note, with Erdoğan extending his best wishes to Sultan Haitham in advance of Eid al-Fitr, the significant Muslim festival that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. He expressed hope that the holiday would bring peace, solidarity, and stability to the Muslim world, while reaffirming Türkiye’s commitment to working with regional partners like Oman to address shared challenges and promote security and prosperity across the Middle East.
