Nicolas Jackson’s proposed transfer to Bayern Munich has collapsed at the last minute after Chelsea pulled out of the deal, leaving the striker and his representatives furious.

The Senegal international had flown to Germany on Saturday morning to complete a loan move to Bayern, having fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of Liam Delap and João Pedro.

However, Chelsea cancelled the transfer hours later when Delap suffered a hamstring injury during their 2-0 win over Fulham. With the £30 million summer signing now sidelined for six to eight weeks, the Blues decided they could not afford to let Jackson go.

Agent hits out

Jackson was said to be “fuming” when informed the deal was off and was told to fly back to London. But the 24-year-old has refused to return, with his camp determined to push the transfer through before the window closes on Monday.

His agent, former Fulham and West Brom striker Diomansy Kamara, made his frustration clear on social media. Reposting an Instagram story declaring “We’re not going back”, he added: “The plane does not go backwards.”

Kamara later wrote: “Of course it’s hard… It’s supposed to be hard. If it’s easy, everyone would do it. Hard is what makes it great.”

Jackson remained in Munich overnight as his representatives continued efforts to salvage the deal.

Bayern respond

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl addressed the situation after his side’s 2-0 Bundesliga win over Augsburg.

“It was relatively close before the game,” Eberl told BILD, via the Daily Mail. “Chelsea informed us that they wanted the player back after we had reached an agreement and were allowed to proceed with the medical. The situation now is that the boy is here in Munich, but we are sending him back.”

He added:

“We acted, we would have liked to do the examination and sign the contract. That’s not possible now. We will tell the player and his agent that they have to go back because Chelsea… We simply don’t have a signed contract. We have 48 hours left. This isn’t a situation we could really plan for, but we’ll try to find a solution.”

The transfer window closes on Monday, 1 September.
