Marcus Rashford has hinted that he would welcome a permanent move to FC Barcelona after helping the Catalan giants secure the La Liga title with victory over rivals Real Madrid.
Marcus Rashford Hints at Barcelona Stay After La Liga Triumph
The on-loan Manchester United forward scored a superb free-kick as Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 2-0 in Sunday’s decisive El Clásico clash at the Nou Camp, sealing their 29th Spanish league title with three matches remaining.
Ferran Torres added Barcelona’s second goal as Hansi Flick’s side comfortably saw off their fierce rivals to confirm another domestic triumph.
Rashford Delighted With Barcelona Success
Speaking after the match, Rashford described the title-winning campaign as the ideal conclusion to his loan spell, although he admitted uncertainty still surrounds his long-term future.
“This is the perfect way I want it to end,” Rashford told ESPN.
“I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today.
“I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see. I came here to win and we do this, so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling.”
The England international added that Barcelona deserved their success after navigating a challenging season filled with highs and lows.
“The feeling is amazing. It’s been a long season with ups and downs, but I think we deserved to win La Liga,” he said.
Uncertainty Over Future
When questioned about whether he would still be a Barcelona player next season, Rashford suggested he would be open to remaining at the club permanently.
“I don’t know,” he said.
“I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see.
“I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can. This is one more to add to this.
“This is a wonderful team, they’re going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special.”
Rashford joined Barcelona on loan last summer after spending the second half of the previous campaign with Aston Villa.
Despite making more than 400 appearances for Manchester United, the forward gradually fell out of favour under former United manager Ruben Amorim.
Barcelona Boss Praises Rashford
Barcelona manager Flick also praised Rashford’s contribution following the title-clinching victory.
“I’m very happy with Marcus,” Flick said.
“He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal.”
However, the German coach stopped short of discussing the player’s future beyond the current season.
“I can’t say anything about his future. We have to focus on the matches until the end of the season,” he added.
Meanwhile, speculation continues over Rashford’s future at Old Trafford, with reports suggesting former United midfielder Michael Carrick could attempt to reintegrate the forward should he secure the managerial role permanently.
