Tottenham’s interim head coach Igor Tudor could face disciplinary action from the Football Association following his outspoken criticism of the referee after Sunday’s Premier League defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Igor Tudor Faces Possible FA Sanctions After Tottenham Defeat to Fulham F.C.
The north London side slipped deeper into relegation trouble after conceding twice in the first half. Harry Wilson gave Fulham the lead inside seven minutes, before former Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi doubled the advantage before the interval.
Richarlison pulled a goal back for Spurs in the second half, but the visitors were unable to complete a comeback and were forced to accept another damaging defeat. Tudor, still searching for his first Premier League victory since taking temporary charge, did not hide his frustration at full-time.
Referee Criticism Sparks Controversy
The Croatian coach directed sharp criticism at referee Thomas Bramall, describing him on two occasions as a “home team referee” and claiming he “doesn’t understand football”.
Tudor also accused Fulham striker Raul Jimenez of “cheating” in the build-up to Wilson’s opener, alleging that the Mexican forward had pushed Radu Dragusin before the decisive moment.
“I didn’t like the referee today — too much of a home team referee,” Tudor said. “I didn’t feel well with him. All the decisions were on their side. He doesn’t understand football, the feeling of what is wrong and what is right.
“He [Jimenez] was not thinking about the ball, he was thinking how to cheat. He cheated the player, was pushing — it was cheating and it’s a foul. Ninety-nine out of 100 people will say it’s a foul, it’s so obvious.”
Potential Breach of FA Rules
Tudor’s remarks could fall foul of FA Rule E3, which addresses improper conduct, abusive or insulting language, and comments that may bring the game into disrepute.
Although the governing body has yet to confirm whether a formal investigation has been launched, managers have previously faced sanctions for similar comments. Punishments can range from official warnings and financial penalties to touchline bans.
A fine appears the most likely outcome should charges be brought, though any further sanction could add to Tottenham’s mounting difficulties during a turbulent campaign.
Relegation Concerns Grow
Beyond his frustration with officiating decisions, Tudor acknowledged his side’s growing struggles amid increasing relegation concerns.
“We need to find strength inside each of us. Where are we going to go?” he said. “When we attack, we lack the quality to score goals. I want to see more — more personality, more desire to make things happen.
“We were not good. We lacked everything — attacking and defending. Fulham were much better.
“Of course it is a confidence problem; it’s not about systems. I don’t want to speak about relegation all the time. My answer is always the same.
“We don’t need to think about that, not because it cannot happen, but because we must focus on growing as a team — mentally, in concentration, physically.”
With pressure intensifying and results failing to improve, Tottenham’s immediate priority remains restoring belief and form on the pitch — while their head coach now awaits potential scrutiny off it.
