FIFA and Adidas have officially unveiled the match ball for the 2026 World Cup, set to be held across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

The ball, named Trionda — derived from the Spanish for “three waves” — features a striking design with a white base decorated with red, green and blue swirls, symbolising the three host nations. Iconography representing each country is also incorporated: a maple leaf for Canada, an eagle for Mexico, and a star for the United States. Gold detailing pays tribute to the World Cup trophy, highlighting the prestige of football’s biggest stage.

According to FIFA, the Trionda integrates several cutting-edge performance innovations. Its four-panel construction uses deep seams to enhance aerodynamic stability, ensuring the ball travels with greater consistency through the air. Embossed micro-icons, visible only up close, improve grip when striking or dribbling in wet or humid conditions.

The ball is also fitted with advanced technology, including a 500Hz motion sensor chip. This allows real-time tracking of every movement, providing precise data to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system to support crucial decisions, particularly during offside reviews.

The unveiling follows FIFA’s recent introduction of the official World Cup mascots: Maple the Moose for Canada, Zayu the Jaguar for Mexico, and Clutch the Bald Eagle for the United States.

The expanded 48-team tournament, featuring 104 matches, will take place from 11 June to 19 July 2026. Thirteen fixtures will be hosted in Toronto and Vancouver. Adidas, which has supplied the official match ball since 1970, continues its long-standing partnership with FIFA.
