The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature an unprecedented trio of opening ceremonies, with each of the three host nations—Mexico, United States and Canada—hosting its own spectacular celebration to mark the start of the tournament.

World football governing body FIFA confirmed the plans on Friday, revealing a line-up of global music stars set to headline the festivities, including Katy Perry, Future, Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, J Balvin and Lisa.

Mexico to Launch Tournament Celebrations

The opening ceremony will begin in Mexico, taking place 90 minutes before the tournament’s first match between Mexico and South Africa on 11 June at the iconic Azteca Stadium, which will be referred to as Mexico City Stadium for the duration of the competition.

The Mexican celebration will feature a strong Latin American influence, with performances from J Balvin, multi-Grammy-winning rock band Maná, and Mexican singer Alejandro Fernández.

Other confirmed performers include Mexican stars Belinda and Lila Downs, alongside South African artist Tyla and traditional Mexican group Los Ángeles Azules.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the opening as a global cultural moment, stating that the tournament will begin with a celebration uniting music, culture and football.

Canada and United States Host Their Own Ceremonies

Canada will stage its opening ceremony on 12 June in Toronto ahead of their match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Canadian segment will feature performances from Morissette, Bublé, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez and Nora Fatehi, highlighting the country’s cultural diversity.

Organisers have promised a nationwide celebration reflecting Canada “from coast to coast”, designed to showcase its identity through music and sport.

Later the same day, the United States will open their campaign against Paraguay in Los Angeles, where another high-profile ceremony will take place.

The US show will feature Katy Perry, Future, Lisa, Brazilian star Anitta, Rema and Tyla, with additional performers still to be announced.

Global Celebration of Football and Culture

FIFA described the Los Angeles ceremony as a reflection of the scale and cultural diversity of the tournament, highlighting the influence of music and entertainment across the United States.

Infantino said the performances would showcase the power of music to unite people across borders, adding that each host nation would bring its own identity to the global event.

Other artists expected to feature across the wider tournament celebrations include Venezuelan reggaeton star Danny Ocean and Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy.

Organisers have also encouraged fans to arrive early for the ceremonies, noting that supporters will play an active role in the opening celebrations.

FIFA said the three ceremonies will be connected by a shared theme of unity, describing the World Cup launch as a “shared heartbeat” across time zones and continents.
