United States forward Christian Pulisic remains a fitness concern ahead of Friday’s key FIFA World Cup group-stage encounter with Australia after continuing to train individually as he recovers from a calf injury.

The US men’s national team confirmed on Tuesday that the AC Milan attacker remains under assessment, with team officials describing his condition as “day to day” following a second consecutive session away from full group training at the squad’s Orange County base.

Despite uncertainty surrounding their captain and leading attacker, the remainder of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad trained without restrictions as preparations intensified ahead of the meeting in Seattle.

Pulisic Injury Raises Concerns Ahead of Key Fixture

Pulisic’s importance to the United States was underlined during their impressive 4–1 victory over Paraguay in their opening World Cup match.

Although his appearance lasted only one half, the 27-year-old delivered another influential display.

Operating from the left side of attack, Pulisic created the opening goal for Folarin Balogun and played a key role in forcing an own goal through his persistent attacking pressure and movement.

His performance once again highlighted the influence he carries within the national side.

Precaution Taken After Signs of Discomfort

The injury originated during training last week after Pulisic sustained a kick to the back of his left calf.

Despite initially featuring against Paraguay, he was withdrawn at half-time due to stiffness.

At the time of his substitution, the United States had already built a commanding 3–0 lead after producing their highest-scoring first half in World Cup competition.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino later explained that the decision to remove Pulisic was precautionary rather than a response to a serious setback.

Speaking after the match, Pulisic remained optimistic about his condition.

“I’m hoping I’ll be fine over the next few days. It’s just the back of my leg, around the calf area. I’m staying positive and I don’t think it’s anything serious.”

Australia Test Looms Large in Group D

The United States now face what could become a defining match in Group D.

Australia opened their campaign with a 2–0 victory over Turkey and are expected to present a far more demanding challenge.

The outcome could play a major role in determining who progresses as group winners.

Following Friday’s contest, the United States are scheduled to return to Inglewood on 25 June to complete their group-stage campaign against Turkey.

Growing Belief Around This USA Squad

While the United States have never advanced beyond the Round of 16 at a FIFA World Cup, expectations surrounding the current squad continue to rise.

Their dominant opening performance has strengthened belief that this generation may be capable of producing the country’s strongest World Cup campaign to date.

For now, however, attention remains fixed on Pulisic’s recovery as supporters await confirmation on whether their star man will be ready for one of the biggest fixtures of the group stage.
