Barcelona are reportedly keen to retain Marcus Rashford beyond the current season but are unwilling to activate the €30 million (£26 million) purchase option included in his loan agreement from Manchester United.

The England international joined the Catalan club on a season-long loan last summer and has since impressed under head coach Hansi Flick, contributing 13 goals and 13 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Barcelona Push for Alternative Deal Structure

Despite Rashford’s positive impact, Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints have led the club to reconsider the terms of a permanent transfer.

According to reports, the Spanish side are exploring the possibility of securing a second loan deal, with discussions between the two clubs already underway. Should that option prove unworkable, Barcelona are expected to attempt to negotiate a reduced transfer fee.

Rashford’s continuation at the club is said to have the full backing of Flick, who views the forward as an important part of his plans moving forward.

Manchester United Hold Firm on Valuation

Manchester United are unlikely to accept a fee below the agreed €30 million, particularly given Rashford’s resurgence in form during his time in La Liga.

Although the forward is not considered central to the club’s long-term plans under the current ownership structure, his market value has been strengthened by his performances in Spain.

With Rashford’s contract at Old Trafford running until June 2028, United may still have time to negotiate a favourable deal, though the summer of 2027 is widely seen as the final opportunity to secure a significant transfer fee.

Uncertain Future Amid Potential Departures

Rashford could be among several high-profile departures from Manchester United this summer, with players such as Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, André Onana and Jadon Sancho also facing uncertain futures.

Reports indicate that Rashford remains committed to Barcelona and is willing to accept a pay cut in order to secure a permanent move to the club.

Premier League Interest Could Complicate Situation

Should Barcelona fail to reach an agreement with Manchester United, interest from Premier League clubs could intensify.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a potential move, while Arsenal have also been suggested as a possible destination.

Speaking on talkSPORT, presenter Angelina Kelly proposed that Rashford could offer a different attacking dimension to Mikel Arteta’s side.

She argued that Arsenal may benefit from signing a winger with greater attacking freedom, suggesting Rashford’s style could complement their current system.

“Rashford could be the answer,” she said. “He offers a direct attacking threat and a willingness to take risks in the final third, which could add a different dynamic to Arsenal’s forward line.”

Kelly also noted that a move could provide Rashford with a fresh opportunity to take on a leading role again after facing intense scrutiny during his time at Manchester United.

Key Decision Ahead

As the summer transfer window approaches, Rashford’s future remains unresolved. Barcelona’s desire to retain him is clear, but their reluctance to meet the agreed fee presents a significant obstacle.

With interest from other clubs and Manchester United determined to protect their valuation, the coming months are likely to prove decisive in determining where the forward will play next season.
