Andrea Berta is now aiming to finalise long-term contracts for four key Arsenal players, following defender Gabriel Magalhães’ decision to commit his future to the club until 2029.

While the Gunners have yet to make any major moves in the summer transfer market—aside from advancing a £5 million deal for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga—Arsenal’s new Italian sporting director has made considerable headway behind the scenes in securing key contract extensions.

According to Mirror Football sources, since his arrival in March, Berta has been diligently working on a number of important agreements, as the club looks to safeguard the futures of its most prized assets.

Bukayo Saka and William Saliba—both of whom have two years remaining on their current contracts—have engaged in positive discussions with the club regarding new terms and are understood to be keen on staying in north London.

Although Saliba has drawn interest from Real Madrid, both he and Saka—considered indispensable by manager Mikel Arteta—have publicly expressed their desire to remain at Arsenal. The club remains calm regarding the situation, aware that negotiations can take time, but confident that new deals will eventually be agreed.

Academy graduates Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are also in line for improved contracts, which would include significant pay rises. Their current deals run until the summer of 2026, but optimism is growing within the club that fresh agreements are close, following impressive breakthrough seasons at the Emirates Stadium.

Talks with Lewis-Skelly had already commenced prior to Berta’s appointment, while one of his first actions as sporting director was to initiate formal discussions with Nwaneri’s representatives—negotiations which are progressing well.

Further discussions are ongoing with midfielder Thomas Partey, who is currently set to become a free agent at the end of the month, and winger Leandro Trossard.

Arsenal presented Partey with what they deemed a competitive offer roughly ten days ago, but an agreement has yet to be reached. The Ghanaian international, who turns 32 next Friday and has attracted interest from Barcelona, is said to be happy in north London and is keen to stay.

However, Partey remains mindful that this could be the final major contract of his career. His representatives are therefore eager to ensure the terms offered reflect his ongoing importance to the team.

All parties are hoping to reach a swift resolution, particularly with Partey and his agent, José Daniel Jiménez Pozanco, due to travel to Ghana between 10 and 13 June for the second edition of the ‘Thomas Partey Tournament’—an event that will see European scouts observe emerging local talent.

Partey is also scheduled to appear at the All Star Festival in Accra on 18 June.

Meanwhile, Leandro Trossard is expected to extend his stay at Arsenal, having joined the club from Brighton in January 2023. Although he received a verbal offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad last September—and there remains interest from the Middle East—sources close to the Belgian confirm there have been no concrete offers this summer. The 30-year-old’s current priority is to continue his career with the Gunners.
