Andoni Iraola will arrive at Liverpool with two summer additions already secured under the tenure of his predecessor, Arne Slot.

The Spaniard was officially unveiled as Liverpool’s new head coach on Thursday, five days after the club confirmed Slot’s departure.

Iraola is expected to oversee a significant rebuild at Anfield following the exits of three influential figures — Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konaté.

Although substantial work remains to restore Liverpool’s status as genuine Premier League title challengers, the new manager will at least begin preparations with two highly-rated defensive additions already in place: Jeremy Jacquet and Ifeanyi Ndukwe.

The pair were among Slot’s final signings completed in January, with Jacquet arriving from Rennes in a deal reportedly worth £60 million.

The 20-year-old French defender is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young talents and, according to The Athletic, is expected to return in time for pre-season following shoulder surgery.

Following Konaté’s departure, Jacquet could find himself playing a more prominent role than originally anticipated at Liverpool.

The young defender has already spoken openly about his ambitions and determination to make an immediate impact at Anfield.

Speaking to Ouest-France, Jacquet said:

“I won’t say it was a quick decision because I took my time over such a big step, but I quickly saw myself at Liverpool.

“I’ll be 21 in July. For me, there’s the sporting project and the personal project.

“At my age, I prioritise the sporting side. I’m focused on football.

“My agent told me there were two options: either join a mid-table club or skip that step entirely. Initially, we were leaning towards a mid-table club.

“But then I told him, ‘If the biggest clubs in Europe are interested, we’re not going to turn them down. They’re there for a reason.’

“I spoke with the management; the club’s history played a major role in my decision, but so did the project they presented to me.

“Promising young players command high fees and naturally that creates pressure — am I worth that amount or not?

“I believe I have the qualities required to succeed there. I’m going there to play as much as possible.”

Jacquet will be joined at Liverpool by 18-year-old defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe, who was signed from Austria Vienna.

Standing at 6ft 6in, the highly-rated prospect attracted attention from multiple European clubs following standout performances at the Under-17 World Cup, where he helped guide Austria to the final.

Ndukwe’s arrival reflects Liverpool’s continued strategy of investing in elite young talent across Europe.

That approach has already been demonstrated through previous acquisitions such as Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha, who joined from Leicester City and Chelsea respectively.

Both young defenders will now continue their development under Iraola, who has earned recognition for his work in nurturing emerging players.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website following his appointment, the 43-year-old explained what made the opportunity impossible to ignore.

“You don’t need many reasons to be attracted by Liverpool.

“Liverpool is Liverpool.

“But obviously the atmosphere, the supporters, the club, the players, the opportunity for me to coach top-level players and the chance to fight for titles.

“I don’t think it gets more attractive than this. It’s difficult to find something like it.

“So, I’m really excited to get started.”

Liverpool will now look to begin a new era under Iraola, with a blend of established quality and emerging talent expected to shape the club’s next chapter.
